ERDINGTON SKILLS CENTRE
Birmingham Metropolitan College (BMET)
Birmingham Metropolitan College offers a wide range of construction trades at the 'new' Erdington Skills Centre. The new facilities bring together all construction trades under one roof with specialist workshops and industry standard equipment for bricklaying, plastering, painting and decorating, plumbing, electrical and carpentry.
The Skills Centre has been developed in response to increasing demand from young people to gain skills they need to take in the thriving construction industry. Working with 14-16 year olds, the college offers City & Guilds qualifications that are designed to give students the opportunity to develop practical skills and also a pathway into further training or employment.
2014/15 - Forest Oak students were also given the opportunity to construct tasks in Bricklaying. As a result, one of the students, Liam Beale, has progressed this academic year and is now attending Erdington Skills Centre 2 days per week, where he is specialising in Bricklaying.
Kevin Allbright course tutor for Plumbing was asked to attend Forest Oak last term for a presentation assembly. He presented students with their certificates, and he commented how much he had enjoyed working with the students and seeing their development throughout the year.
2015/16 - Forest Oak students will continue to be given the opportunity to experience and enjoy a number of construction trades at BMET and the chance to achieve City & Guilds qualifications in construction.
Construction Students have tried their hand at Plastering and Electrical trades this term!
All the boys are making great progress and staff at college are proud of how mature they all are.
Well Done Lads! Keep up the Good Work!
