Key Stage 4 students take part in a vocational accreditation and are enjoying the real-life, work-related learning at Hazel Oak.
This year, one student from Year 10 will gain a City & Guilds Entry Level 3 qualification in 'Hair & Beauty' and four students will gain Level 1.
The students travel with a member of staff to Hazel Oak one day a week and join other students from Hazel Oak Sixth Form. The students work on each other in 'Hair & Beauty'; they perform facials and makeovers in the Beauty Room and learn how to give a hand massage before a manicure to a professional standard. They learn how to wash, blow dry and style all types of hair in a salon style setting. The salon is open to the public and students act as if they are working in a hairdressing or beauty salon.
The Students complete their practical tasks up to lunchtime and then complete theory tasks during the afternoon. They receive feedback from their tutors about the practical assessments they have completed.
At Halloween and Christmas, the students took part in a themed make up lesson and had lots of fun watching a demonstration of theatrical make up.
The students are doing really well, we are very proud of them all!
