TRAVEL TRAINING - FRIDAYS

Each Friday all of the 6th Form students who have not secured a work experience placement will take part in 'Travel Training'.  This involves traveling via buses within the local area, to build confidence and knowledge.  We will also be attending North Solihull Sports Centre where all of the students are now members of the gym.  The students can either use the gym facilities for a discounted rate of £2.30 or use the swimming pool for 90p each week.  We will continue to do this for the rest of the academic year.  All of the students attending currently are enjoying this and it is a great way to end the working week.

BUSPASSES

I have sent out buspass forms with all students in Year 12 who have not applied yet.  If you are able to fill the form in and send it back into college to me I can then send it off with relevent paperwork. All students will need a buspass whilst in 6th Form as we do Travel Training each Friday and we also do trips and visits within the area as part of the courses we study.

WORK EXPERIENCE

During 6th Form we aim to get as many students as possible out on weekly work placements.  This will be a fantastic addition to their CV's and will encourage social & development skills.  We currently have 12 students in secured work placements.  Two of these students have also secured themselves weekend jobs through this which is fabulous!!  If you know of any companies who would be willing to give  your child a work placement each Friday during term time please call us on our class mobile to discuss with my self.

Letters have been sent out with all students who have not currently secured a work placement.

MATHLETICS

All of the students have been introduced to Mathletics, they all have their own personal username and password to log in and complete tasks, this will include homework tasks.  Please have a look with your child and if you would like any more details contact us on the class mobile.

SOLIHULL COLLEGE - BLOSSOMFIELD CAMPUS TOUR

On Thursday 17th January, we all went to Blossomfield Campus for a tour around the college.  We spilt into 2 groups, had a tour of the campus. One group looked aound the Animal Management Department where they saw different animals and were able to hold snakes and lizards. The other group looked around the Sports department and played football and basketball.  After lunch we watched some of the Level 1 & 2 students perform 'Sleeping Beauty'. Everyone had a lovely day and really enjoyed watching the performance.

HEREWARD COLLEGE OPEN MORNING

On Monday 7th January, Year 13 went along to Hereward College for a tour.  We had a look around the whole college, had a break in the canteen there and even bumped into some old students.  All of the class enjoyed looking around and were given application packs for if they wanted to apply for September 2019.  Year 12 will also have the opportunity to go along for the tour at a later date.

COSTA COFFEE LIFESKILLS TRIP

On Thursday 20th December as part of our 'Lifeskills Course' we all travel via bus to Costa Coffee at Chelmsley Wood Shopping centre.  All of the students were able to order a drink and snack and again all were very confident in doing this.  They all sat in small groups around the shop and were able to have chats between themselves.  It was lovely to see how confident they are all becoming when out in the community, ordering drinks and speaking to Costa staff.

SNOWDOME REWARD TRIP

On Tuesday 18th December we all went to the Snowdome in Tamworth.  We enjoyed a morning of ice skating which was fantastic, everybody had a go and really enjoyed it.  We then had lunch in the cafe and spent the afternoon in the snowplay area which was basically a massive snowball fight!!  Everyone had a great time and it was a lovely activity to do before breaking up for the Christmas Holiday.

CHRISTMAS MEAL

On Monday 17th December, we had our annual Christmas meal at  The Swann in Coleshill.  All of the students had a lovely afternoon and meal.  Students were able to go up to the bar and order their own drinks and puddings and were very confident in doing this smiley

Skills Show

On Thursday 15th November we attended the SkillsShow at the NEC.  We spent the morning looking around and finding out information about different career paths and colleges.  The students were able to walk around in small groups independently and had a meeting time and point.  Everyone had a lovely morning and collect some information.

Into Film Festival

As part of the 'Into Film Festival' we went to Cineworld at the NEC and watched 'The Little Strangers'.  All of the students and staff really enjoyed the film and were talking about the plot twists when we got back to college!!
