Lesson ideas to teach your children how to get creative with Art

Doodle Drawings

Begin in one spot on the paper and start drawing doodles. Create as many doodles as you like… the only rule is that no doodles should overlap or interfere with any other doodles.

Pattern Drawing and Painting

Using paper, pencils, markers and some objects from around the home and classroom, children can create some fantastic patterns that will astound and amaze.

Blind Contour Drawing

Blind contour drawing is an excellent way to train the eye to draw what it really sees rather than what it thinks it sees. When making a blind contour drawing, the eye is not watching the hand as it draws on the paper.

Advanced Scribble Pictures

This lesson requires planning and problem solving, much like a maths problem or science experiment. Students will see that scribbles can become much more. Tell the students that they will be making scribble pictures today, but these scribble pictures have rules.

The first rule is: you can only use three colours. The second rule is: the same colour cannot share a “wall”.

Lines of All Kinds

Students will learn about lines as they create a colourful picture using a variety of lines.

Overlapping Shapes

Students will learn about line, shape and colour as they create colourful works of art.
