PSED

On this page you will find activities to help us identify our feelings and how to manage them, how to be a good friend and to identify the behaviours that allow us to be kind to those around us.

Print two copies of these emotion cards. They can be used two ways either for a game of snap or a matching game where all the cards are placed face down and if you turn over two of the same on your go you keep the cards.

Can you name all of the emotions on your cards as you play? If you want a real challenge can you give an example of when you feel the same emotion as on your card, for example do you feel happy when you get to play outside?

If you are not able to print out the emotion cards you can draw your own using the ones in the link as a guide.

Have a listen to the lovely story called the 'Colour monster' about a monster who gets his emotions a little bit mixed up. Have you ever felt like the colour monster?

Choose one person to close their eyes or place something to cover their eyes so that they can not see where they are going. Choose an object for them to pick up. The other people in the team have to guide the person with their eyes closed to the object by shouting instructions or making a noise to guide them in the right direction.

Did you enjoy the story? Do you think the crocodile became more friendly at the end of the story? What things did he do that made him a good friend in the end?Did the story give you any ideas about how you could be a good friend?

Have a look at these cards can you decide which ones show the children being good friends and which ones show the children who are not being very good friends?

Talk about the pictures with someone in your house and tell them why you think the children in the picture are being kind or unkind.

Do you know some of the qualities that you have that make you a good friend? Have a go at making a friendship cloud so you can see them, you could even make one for one of your friends or family listing all of the things that make them a good friend.

The compliment game -

Sit in a circle with your family with a soft toy or bean bag something soft that you can safely throw to one another. Someone takes the toy and gives someone in the circle a compliment maybe about how they are a good friend or something that is nice about them, they then throw the toy to that person. The person who catches the toy then gives a compliment to another member of the circle and so on.
